NFL: Andrew Luck throws four touchdowns as Indianapolis Colts beat New York Giants
Tuesday 11 November 2014 15:49, UK
Andrew Luck fired four more touchdowns and piled up another 354 passing yards to lead the Indianapolis Colts to a dominant 40-24 victory over the New York Giants.
The Colts led 16-3 at half time with just Coby Fleener’s 32-yard touchdown grab from Luck and three Adam Vinatieri field goals against on from New York’s Josh Brown.
But Luck upped a gear in the second half with his opening drive taking the Colts 84 yards in eight plays and finishing off with TY Hilton’s brilliant touchdown catch under all sorts of pressure.
Andre Williams ran in a one-yard score to reply for the Giants, but Luck responded with a 40-yard TD to veteran Reggie Wayne and a two-yard toss to Dwayne Allen when the Giants defence was total sold on the possible run play.
Vinatieri booted the Colts 40-10 in front at the start of the fourth quarter, rendering Larry Donnell and Corey Washington’s late scores nothing more than consolations.
After suffering a blowout loss in Pittsburgh last time out, the Colts got right back into winning ways to go to 6-3 heading into their bye week with a two-game lead over Houston in the AFC South.
"It was great to get back in the win column after a tough one last week," Luck said. "Reggie spoke to it last night. He's had only one or two, but he said losses before bye weeks stink."
Luck records
Luck recorded a team record seventh straight 300-yard passing game, breaking predecessor Peyton Manning’s record in Indy as he continues to flourish in just his third NFL season.
He became the first QB to pass for 350 yards in five straight road games, and he also moved above Manning in the touchdown passes standings this season as he moved on to 26, while he also tops the passing yards list with 3,085 so far.
It’s all a different story for the Giants as they slipped to 3-5 after a third straight defeat which leaves them struggling in the NFC East.
Eli Manning threw for 359 yards and two TDs but a lot of that came with the game already decided, when the Giants managed to level out the stats to those similar to Indy.
Manning was sacked three times and struggled to make throws under pressure as he recorded 11 overthrows when trying to find receivers – but crucial drops also hindered the labouring Giants.
Things get no easier for Tom Coughlin’s men who next up face a trip to Seattle to face the Super Bowl champions Seahawks.
