Super Bowl XLIX: Seattle injury concern Kam Chancellor looked good at 'walk-through' practice

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he is hopeful that key safety Kam Chancellor will be fit to play in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots in Arizona on Sunday.

Chancellor played a key role in Seattle’s 43-8 thrashing of Denver in last year’s big game and he and team mate Earl Thomas comprise arguably the top safety combination in the NFL.

However, Chancellor was injured on the penultimate play of the Seahawks’ final full practice on Friday and left the field with his left knee bandaged.

However, the three-time Pro Bowler was able to take part in the team’s ‘walk-through’ practice on Saturday when the team rehearsed various plays, although not at game speed.

Chancellor did not appear to be favouring either leg at the practice and was able to toss footballs around with wide receiver Doug Baldwin and cornerback Richard Sherman.

After watching Chancellor closely, Carroll said afterwards: “He looked pretty good today.

"We will make sure we test him in pre-game but, remarkably, he looked great today and so that's all we have to go on."

If Chancellor is cleared to play, his likely tussle with top class Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is likely to play a large part in determining the outcome of Sunday’s keenly awaited showdown.

Sherman said of a potential Chancellor-Gronkowski duel: “I'll be sitting there with popcorn. It'll be good football.”
