Brit captures two golds at Polish Open ahead of British tournament next month
Bianca Walkden warmed up for next month's British Open by capturing two gold medals at the Polish Open in Warsaw.
The 19-year-old Liverpudlian not only won the +73kg weight division title but she also proved that she was the queen of the -73kg category.
Although Walkden acknowledged that the British Open in Manchester, held on October 1st-2nd, will be a much tougher competition, she remained delighted with her work over the weekend.
She said: "I also won 'best fighter' of the tournament so that was an extra confidence booster for me.
"It was always the plan to go out there and compete in two weights. I just want to get as many fights as possible because I have missed so much time through injury."
Having been sidelined for five months after requiring major knee surgery, the former world number two was not in shape to produce any medal-winning performances at the WTF World Championships last May.
Disappointment
The fighter then suffered further disappointment as her favourite weight division was not included as one of the four for Great Britain at London 2012.
Regardless of this, Walkden is determined to prove a point at the Regional Arena at Sportcity in October.
"I know it will be much harder at the British Open but I want to show the form I was capable of before I got injured," she added.
"To be honest it was a stroll in the park most of the time in Poland.
"I knocked one girl out and that felt pretty good and I had a good win over a decent Korean girl in the final at -73kg.
"I've got no problems with my knee now and I just want to push on from here."
