Teenage Londoner Zoe Smith is a big outsider for a medal in 2012, but she has the world at her feet if she can maintain her current progress. Smith will have just turned 18 by the time London 12 rolls around, but she has already tasted medal success at a major Games. Having already won bronze in the Commonwealth Games at 58kg, Smith has her eyes firmly on the Olympics - although she has plenty of work to do. Her combined lift of 188kg might have been good enough for a medal in Dehli, but it is well short of the world championship winning total of 237kg and the world record of 251kg. Smith had her funding revoked late in 2010 as officials felt she was not dedicating herself enough, but she moved up to the national performance centre in Leeds early in 2011. Funding was restored, Smith became a full-time athlete and she picked up a silver in Peru at the World Youth Championships to prove that she means business. An early move from training as a gymnast to weightlifting looks like it really could pay-off for the teenager, who will be one of the big stories of 2012 if she can manage to raise her game enough to challenge for a medal.
