Omitted 800m runner admits she considered retiring

Marilyn Okoro has hit out at the team GB selectors after they controversially omitted her from the Olympic 800m. Okoro, along with Jenny Meadows, Jemma Simpson and Emma Jackson all missed out on a place in the event, despite running the required 'A' standard. Instead, the selectors opted to take just one athlete, Lynsey Sharp, despite her only having achieved the 'B' standard - Olympic rules state that if you opt for an athlete without an 'A' standard you can only take one instead of three.

Retiring

And Okoro admitted she considered retiring from the sport. She said: "You go through so much and sometimes you wonder if it's all worth it. "It's not the easiest sport to be in, my federation does a lot of stuff I just don't want to be mixed up in.

"But I love the sport and it's just going to make me fight even harder. It's given me a bigger sting in my tail." Okora has been handed a consolation in being included in the 4x400m team for London 2012, and she's determined to make the most of it. "I'm just going to focus on the relay now. I still get to have an Olympic experience so I want to enjoy it and just go out there and do the best I can."
