Ahead of London 2012 we asked a range of personalities to let us know what the Olympics means to them. Former England captain and Sky Sports cricket presenter David Gower is looking forward to the battle of the quicks...
What are your favourite Olympics memories?
The rivalry between Seb Coe and Steve Ovett in the late 1970s and early 1980s made middle-distance running compelling viewing. Even though they both competed for Britain, there was no love lost between them and their track battles were one of the highlights of the Moscow Olympics.
Who would you class as the greatest Olympian of all time?
It's hard to fathom the dedication and commitment that goes into winning one gold medal, so Sir Steve Redgrave's achievement of winning five at as many different Olympic Games was truly incredible - especially as he was only aiming to win three at the start of his career...
Which events are you most looking forward to watching - cricket allowing?
The men's 100m final is considered the blue-riband event of the Games with good reason. This summer will be no exception and I just hope conditions are good enough for Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake or - you just never know - Adam Gemili to have a decent crack at that world record.
How do you think Team GB will fare?
I hope they meet their predicted medal haul, which would be a great achievement. Officially the target is at least 48 medals - one more than in Beijing - and with the added benefit of home support that doesn't seem unrealistic. It would be some feat to surpass the 19 golds won in 2008.
Do you think the legacy of London 2012 will be of benefit to sport in general?
I hope so - but on the whole I tend to think that the effects of showpiece events such as the Olympics and Wimbledon are short-lived and that, in general, serious efforts are required to keep the profile of sport high, year in year out.
What sport would you like to see added to the Olympics?
I'm told that 30 venues will host over 300 events during the Games - so I'm of the mind that there are plenty of sports in the Olympics already.
If you were to enter the Olympics at the peak of your sporting ability, which event would you choose and why...
Swimming - if Eric 'the Eel' can get a gig so can anyone!
