Influential back-row Jason Baitieri has signed a new two-year deal with the Catalans Dragons.

The 26-year-old has become a key player for the Perpignan-based side and has taken his appearance tally for the club past 100 this season. - he joined from the Sydney Roosters in 2011.

Baitieri, who joined from the Sydney Roosters in 2011, said: "I am delighted to have re-signed for two years with the Catalans Dragons.

"This is already my fifth season and I am very happy here with my wife and my daughter. I am proud to be part of the club's future and proud over the trust they have shown in me."

And coach Laurent Frayssinous admits he was happy to sort out the future of one of his side's most important players.

He said: “I am very satisfied by Jason's contract renewal. He was very unlucky with his knee injury in 2013 but he has worked hard to get back to his best.

"He is a very consistent player in his performance each weekend and I count on him in the coming years to transmit his experience to the young French players. He's the kind of player that every coach is looking for.”

The Dragons have also confirmed the departure of Damien Cardace, who has been released to join former club Lezingnan, who play in the French Championship.

They have recalled winger Jordan Sigimeau to fill Cardace's place in the squad. Sigimeau had been playing in the Kingstone Press Championship with Whitehaven since May.
