England international Jack Reed has been forced to retire after suffering a persistent shoulder injury.
Reed featured on four occasions for England in 2011, but struggled to add more caps to his tally after undergoing a number of shoulder operations.
The Brisbane Broncos centre made 126 NRL appearances after beginning his career with Canberra Raiders' feeder club Souths Logan Magpies.
However, the 28-year-old's career has been cut short despite intensive rehabilitation attempts by the medical staff at the Brisbane Broncos.
Brisbane chief executive, Paul White said: "It is a disappointing end for Jack but he can be very proud of what he has been able to achieve in his six years at the Broncos,
"He came to us on the chance of a pre-season and in one year went from being a Queensland Cup player to a Test representative. He also played in an NRL grand final last year.
"We thank Jack for his efforts and wish him and his lovely young family all the best for the future."
The Brisbane Broncos face the Gold Coast Titans in a local Queensland derby in their next fixture on 9 September, which will kick of the 2016 NRL Telstra Premiership Finals Series.
