A late drop goal from Scott Dureau handed Catalans Dragons a 13-12 Super League win over Castleford Tigers at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Tries from Dragons duo Morgan Escare and Elliott Whitehead and Tigers pair Justin Carney and Jordan Tansey left the match deadlocked before Dureau slotted over a one-pointer in the 78th minute.

The visitors took the lead when Carney scored in the 12th minute and held on to go into the half-time break 6-0 ahead.

But Catalans hit back after the break with scores from Escare and Whitehead, with Dureau missing one of the conversions but sending over a separate penalty goal to leave the score 12-6 in the home side’s favour.

Castleford produced a response when Carney turned provider to play in Tansey, with Luke Gale’s second conversion of the game levelling the scores.

However, there was still time left for Australian half-back Dureau to attempt a drop goal in the closing stages which, after being confirmed by the video referee, proved to be the match-winning score.

Castleford, who finished in fourth position in the league last year and also reached the Challenge Cup final in 2014, have lost their opening two matches of the new season.
