World No.7 needs three sets to see off Gallovits

Jelena Jankovic bounced back from a slow start to reach the third round of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston. The world No.7 was guilty of making a number of errors in the first set as Romania's Edina Gallovits dominated. However, second-seeded Jankovic recovered well to progress with a 2-6 6-4 6-3 victory. Jankovic is joined in the next round by fourth seed Samantha Stosur after the Australian secured a 6-3 7-5 victory over Magdalena Rybarikova. Vera Zvonereva and Aleksandra Wozniak are also into the third round after respective victories over Rossana De Los Rios and Catalina Castano. In the remaining first round games, British teenager Heather Watson succumbed to 10th seed Elena Vesnina 7-6 (7-4) 6-3, while 14th seed Vera Dushevina was leading 6-0 2-0 when Olga Govortsova was forced to retire hurt. However fellow seeds Virginie Razzano and Melinda Czink both crashed out. Razzano, the 11th seed, was ousted by Monique Adamczak, while 15th seed Czink was beaten by Michaella Krajicek. Patty Schnyder, Barbora Zahlavova Strycov, Vania King, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Melanie Oudin and Shuai Peng also tasted first-round victories.
