Home favourite edges first round clash in Zagreb

Top seed and home favourite Ivan Ljubicic was made to work overtime before booking his place in the second round of the Zagreb Indoors at the expense of Karol Beck. World number 32 Ljubicic needed two hours and 18 minutes to see off his veteran opponent 7-6 (7/5) 3-6 6-3 and reach round two, where he will play either Michael Berrer or Marco Chiudinelli. Fifth seed Andreas Seppi joined Ljubicic in round two with a 6-4 7-6 (7/1) win over Germany's Daniel Brands, and seventh seed Robin Haase eased past local wild card Kristijan Mesaros 6-2 6-3. Also in round one, Germany's Matthias Bachinger beat Izak van der Merwe of South Africa 6-3 6-3, and Croatian Lukas Lacko delighted the home fans with a 7-6 (7/2) 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 win over Italy's Potito Starace.
