Yaroslava Shvedova completed the first Golden Set in Grand Slam history as she won all 24 points in a 6-0 first set whitewash of Sara Errani at Wimbledon on Saturday.
Shvedova, the world number 65, hit 14 winners and took just 15 minutes to demolish Italian 10th seed Errani, the French Open runner-up, in an incredible first set on Court Three.
The 24-year-old Kazakh wildcard, the Wimbledon doubles champion in 2010 and twice a French Open singles quarter-finalist, was not quite so dominant in the second set.
But she still made the decisive break of serve to secure a 6-0 6-4 victory in 57 minutes and a place in the last 16.
Shvedova will face four-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams for a place in the quarter-finals.
Remarkably, Shvedova won 23 consecutive points at the start of her match against American Amy Frazier in round two in Memphis in 2006, and took the set 6-1.
Even more remarkably, she lost that match 1-6 6-0 6-0.
The only previous player to record a Golden Set was American Bill Scanlon, who won all 24 points in the second set of his 6-2,6-0 first round defeat of Marcos Hocevar of Brazil in an ATP Tour event at Delray Beach in 1983.
