Heather Watson and Naomi Broady won their opening matches in qualifying for next week's Madrid Open.
British No 2 Watson won two tight sets against Lucie Hradecka to triumph 7-6 7-6 while Broady was an impressive 6-2 6-4 winner over France's Oceane Dodin.
Both women need one more win to reach the main draw at the tournament, which is one of the biggest on the WTA Tour.
British No 1 Johanna Konta has secured automatic entry into the event and will play France's Caroline Garcia.
Laura Robson, who is using her protected ranking, has a tough draw against Indian Wells and Miami champion Victoria Azarenka.
