Italian overcomes Govortsova in Moscow final

Francesca Schiavone cruised to her second career title with a straight-sets thrashing of Belarussian Olga Govortsova in the Kremlin Cup. The Italian eighth-seed found top form in Moscow, blowing away her unseeded opponent 6-3 6-0 in just 77 minutes. Both players showed early nerves, neither holding serve with any authority before Schiavone snatched the initiative. World number 67th Govortsova was clearly struggling with a rib injury in the second set and won just 10 points before crashing to defeat. Schiavone last won a WTA title in Bad Gastein in 2007. Speaking after the match, the victorious Italian said: "Usually I feel nervous before matches but today was the final so I felt it even more. "The key for me was to stay ahead in the first set, at 3-2 then 4-3. That helped me to settle down so the second set was easy."
