David Nalbandian continues to make a winning return from injury, with the Argentine claiming a hard-fought second-round victory in the ATP Copa Telmex in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. The former world number three, who is playing in his first tournament since undergoing hip surgery in May, was made to battle by Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver but eventually prevailed 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 7-6 (9/7). Nalbandian will meet Albert Montanes in the quarter-finals, the fifth seed advancing with a routine 6-3 6-2 win over fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar. In other second-round action on Wednesday, Spanish qualifier Santiago Ventura upset seventh seed Victor Hanescu in straight sets. Ventura scored a 6-4 7-6 (12/10) victory over his Romanian opponent to set up a last-eight meeting with compatriot Juan Carlos Ferrero. Second seed Ferrero breezed past Brazilian Marcos Daniel 6-2 6-4 in the late second-round match.
