Czech overcomes teenager in Fes final

Iveta Benesova claimed her second career WTA title with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Simona Halep in Fes, Morocco. The Czech broke serve six times on the way to her first singles trophy on the main tour since winning in Acapulco in 2004. Romanian Halep had defeated second and eighth seeds Patty Schnyder and Lucie Hradecka en route to the final, but her exertions began to tell as she dished out five double faults. Benesova had lost to the teenager at last month's Andalucia Tennis Experience in Marbella and admitted: "I knew what to expect, and wanted a little revenge. "It has been such a long time since Acapulco, six years - I don't even remember. It's hard to compare. I'm just happy I could make it again." Benesova rounded off a successful week by teaming up with Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain to lift the doubles title.
