Pair clinch straight sets victories in Basel

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will face each other in a repeat of last year's final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel. Defending champion Djokovic edged past fellow Serbian Victor Troicki 7-6 6-4, while Federer brushed aside American Andy Roddick 6-2 6-4. Next month's Davis Cup final team-mates were hard to split in the opening set and Djokovic had to save three set points in the 12th game, giving him valuable momentum that saw him take the tie-breaker 7-4. "I was lucky to get out of the first set," said Djokovic, who will play his third final from his last four ATP tournaments following the US Open and Beijing. "That helped me to regain my confidence. We had a thrilling match in New York as well. Again today, he was the better player and was close to the win "The key point in the match was that 6-5 game. If he had won the first set, god knows what would have happened."

Cruised

Federer cruised through the first set against Roddick but suffered an early break of serve in the second, as the American looked to take the match into a decider. However, the world number three levelled at 3-3 and then broke again in the 10th game to wrap up the victory - his 20th in 22 encounters with Roddick - on his first match point in 70 minutes. "It always seems to work well for me against Andy. He went quite a while without serving an ace and that's a good sign that I had a good read of his serve," Federer said. "It's a tough final, as tough as they come especially on a fast court. It's going to be very physical." Roddick, who was out-aced 11-4 by his opponent, said: "It's unfortunate my bad serving day came today. I was just a little bit out of rhythm. You can't afford to do that against Roger."
