Slovak crushes Errani to end three-and-a-half year title drought

Daniela Hantuchova secured her first WTA title since 2007 by thrashing Sara Errani 6-0 6-2 in the final of the Pattaya Open on Sunday. The former world number five was in control from the start as her Italian opponent had no answer for her powerful groundstrokes. Errani was given no time to settle in the first set as Hantuchova breezed through it without dropping a single game. The eighth seed finally put up some resistance at the start of the second but Hantuchova was soon on top again and raced away to clinch the crown. The Slovak, whose last title came in Linz three-and-a-half years ago, did not drop a set in the Thai tournament and beat top seed Vera Zvonareva in the last four. "I really focused on my play, point by point, not giving away anything, I was just trying to get the job done and I was really hungry for another title," Hantuchova said. "I just showed that I really can focus and I'm mentally physically strong." She added: "When you least expect something, that's when good things happen and that happened to me this week."
