Serbian makes quick work of Monfils in Rogers Cup
Novak Djokovic breezed into the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup with a dominant 6-2 6-1 win over Gael Monfils in Montreal.
The world number one secured his 51st win in 52 matches this year and is now the clear favourite to claim a ninth title of 2011.
The opening four games were shared but the Serbian soon stamped his authority on the match by reeling off nine straight games and eventually completed victory in one hour and 14 minutes.
Djokovic will face Monfils' fellow Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last four after the 13th seed saw off Spain's Nicolas Almagro 6-4 6-4.
Tsonga had repeated his Wimbledon success by knocking out Roger Federer in the previous round and admitted that he was still feeling the effects of that effort.
"I was a bit tired today. I lacked energy. The match (against Federer) took a lot of stamina, and today my energy level was low," Tsonga said.
Fish wins
Mardy Fish also booked his place in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup with a 6-3 6-7 6-0 victory over Stan Wawrinka in Montreal.
The sixth seed lost an error-filled second set after both players dropped their serve twice - the Swiss forcing a deciding set by taking the tie-break 10-8.
But Fish sailed through the final set as Wawrinka continued to struggle with his serve, to book his fifth semi-final appearance of the campaign.
"The second set was very strange for both of us," said Fish, who won the match with six aces and a massive 10 breaks of the Wawrinka serve.
"There were a lot of variables. We couldn't hold serve to save our lives, but we returned really well. There's the positive, I guess.
"To dwell on how you played, you're going to have some problems. It's nice that I'm able to move on and to be able to rectify my serve game."
Janko Tipsarevic awaits in the last four after the Serbian ousted the seventh seed and former Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-4.
