Top seed Pervak safely through to second round

Third seed and former winner Pauline Parmentier was an early casualty in the Tashkent Open as she crashed out to Eleni Daniilidou. Parmentier, who won this event in 2007, was beaten 7-5 6-1 by the Greek as the event found itself without two of its top three seeds heading into the second round following the exit of number two Bojana Jovanovski on Monday. Top seed Ksenia Pervak safely progressed through the first round after seeing off Galina Voskoboeva in straight sets. Russian Pervak, who is looking for her maiden WTA Tour title having reached her first final at Baku in July, defeated her Kazakh opponent 6-2 7-5 to avoid the same fate as Frenchwoman Parmentier.

Farewell

Eighth seed and Parmentier's countrywoman Aravane Rezai also bid farewell to the Uzbekistan tournament after losing 6-4 6-3 to local favourite and two-time finalist Akgul Amanmuradova. It was a better day for the fifth and sixth seeds with Magdalena Rybarikova and Alla Kudryavtseva both going through to the second round. Rybarikova of Slovakia had to fight back from a set down to beat local wild card Nigina Abduraimova 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 6-3, while defending champion Kudryavtseva defeated fellow Russian Vesna Dolonts 6-2 7-5. The other first-round winners today were Eva Birnerova, Urszula Radwanska, Aleksandra Krunic, Victoria Larriere and Sabina Sharipova.
