New skipper vows 'to talk to all players and coaches' about 2012
Spain's new captain Alex Corretja will speak to Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer in an attempt to reverse their decisions to skip the 2012 Davis Cup.
Nadal and Ferrer starred as Spain won the competition 2011 but no sooner had they beaten Argentina in the final than they declared themselves unavailable for next year, citing a packed schedule which includes the London Olympics.
Corretja, speaking as he was officially unveiled as Spain's new Davis Cup captain in Barcelona on Wednesday, said he planned to speak to both men at next month's Australian Open.
"My duty as captain is to talk to all players and all coaches," he said.
"Neither player has told me they will not play, this is what they said in the press.
Challenge
"If there are players who feel they have to rest, I will respect this and try to make the best possible team for each tie."
Corretja, who on Tuesday agreed a two-year stint as captain, also said he felt well prepared for his new role, one which will begin with February's first-round tie at home to Kazakhstan.
"It's a nice challenge," he added.
"I bring all my experience, what I experienced as a player and later as a commentator from outside and when coaching Andy Murray, an experience that I have learned a lot from."
