World number two Petra Kvitova insists she is not concentrating on usurping Caroline Wozniacki at the top of the WTA rankings.
In-form Czech does not have world number one spot in her sights
World number two Petra Kvitova insists she is not focusing on usurping Caroline Wozniacki at the top of the WTA rankings.
Kvitova ended 2011 as the form player in women's tennis, claiming 12 straight wins including the WTA Championships and also helping the Czech Republic to Fed Cup glory.
She also won her first grand slam at Wimbledon in the summer and many have tipped her to take over the number one spot from Wozniacki in the coming year.
But Kvitova claims she does not care about where she is ranked and would rather focus on improving her game in 2012.
"Not really," she said when asked if she had a desire to be number one in the world.
"I am not the one who compares me and Caroline, I focus on my game and improving. My focus is to improve my game, not the ranking.
Improvement
"My goal is improving my game, everywhere -- technique, tactics and mentally."
Kvitova will go head-to-head with Wozniacki in Group A of the Hopman Cup on January 6, giving an early indication of how their rivalry may develop over the year.
The pair met only once in 2011, with Kvitova emerging as a comfortable winner, but the 21-year-old dismissed any suggestions that she would easily topple the Dane from the top of the rankings.
She added: "It's still a long way to be number one, it is a really big step. She (Wozniacki) is playing great."
Kvitova also said she would not be using the Hopman Cup clash as a chance to get a psychological advantage over Wozniacki.
"I look forward to every match I play, it doesn't matter who is on the other side. Caroline is always tough to play and we play good matches," Kvitova said.
