There were also wins in the men's first round for Philipp Kohlschreiber, Santiago Giraldo, Matthew Ebden, Albert Ramos, Pablo Andujar, Sergiy Stakhovsky, Dudi Sela, Frederico Gil, Nicolas Mahut and Ryan Harrison. In the women's draw, Australian Jelena Dokic retired with a wrist injury after losing the first game of her first-round clash with Argentina's Gisela Dulko.

Neck injury

Hungary's Greta Arn also retired due to a neck injury when trailing Sweden's Johanna Larsson 4-1 in the first set.
