Mayer brushes aside Haase to set up all-German quarter-final

Gilles Simon defence of his title as the German Tennis Championships came to an end when he was knocked out in the second round by Tommy Haas. Wild card Haas rolled back the years to dump out the second seed in Hamburg, seeing off the Frenchman 4-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and six minutes. The 34-year-old German took five of his seven break-point chances as he triumphed for the third time in four meetings against Simon. Next up for Haas in the quarter-finals will be fellow German Florian Mayer, the seventh seed having brushed aside Robin Haase 6-2 6-1 in 56 minutes. Fourth-seeded Marin Cilic remains on course for a second ATP Tour title in as many weeks after a 6-3 6-2 triumph over qualifier Federico Delbonis. Standing in the Croatian's way of the semi-finals will be Spain's Albert Ramos, who saw off Rafael Nadal's Wimbledon conqueror Lukas Rosol 7-6 (10/8) 4-6 6-3.
