Olympic champion record comfortable win

Andy Murray picked up where he left off at the Olympics as he brushed aside Falvio Cipolla to reach the third round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Buoyed by his gold medal in London, the world number four dominated from start to finish against his Italian opponent - ranked 93 places lower in the ATP world rankings - as he breezed to a 6-1 6-3 victory in one hour and 21 minutes. The 25-year-old will now meet 16th seed, and local hero, Milos Raonic for a place in the quarter-finals. Murray showed no signs of fatigue despite his recent exertions as he secured a one-sided first set thanks to two breaks of serve. Cipolla, who beat Estonian Jurgen Zopp in the first round, simply had no answer to the Scot's superior power and accuracy as Murray dictated both from the back of the court and coming forward at the net. But Murray's rhythm was disrupted as he was forced to call for the trainer in the second set ater having trouble with his knee. Cipolla tried to exploit his opponent's discomfort, but a single break in the fifth game proved sufficient for Murray who held firm to record a comfortable triumph.

Casualty

Top seed Novak Djokovic, beaten by Murray at the Olympics, breezed past Bernard Tomic, breaking the Australian teenager's serve twice in the first set and once in the second en route to a 6-2 6-3 victory in one hour 11 minutes. There were also wins for fourth seed Tomas Berdych, who came from a set down to beat France's Julien Benneteau, and fifth seed Janko Tipsarevic who overcame Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets. However, third seed Jo-Wifried Tsonga was a surprise early casualty as he was beaten 6-4 7-6 (7/4) by compatriot Jeremy Chardy. Sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro, the bronze medallist in London, was another surprise casualty, Radek Stepanek sinking the Argentinean 6-4 7-6 (7/5). Tommy Haas saw off ninth seed Gilles Simon 6-2 6-3, Sam Querrey defeated 13th-seeded Kei Nishikori 6-2 6-3 - the American will face Djokovic next - and Marcel Granollers overcame 15th seed Florian Mayer 6-3 6-4.
