World number two defends title in Toronto

Novak Djokovic successfully defended his Toronto Masters title with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Richard Gasquet of France. The Serbian made quick work of the 14th seed, rarely under pressure on serve as he completed the rout in just over an hour. The win capped a difficult week for the world number two, who arrived after failing to win a medal at the Olympics before suffering numerous rain delays. "It's been a long week, a tough week, especially for the players coming from the Olympics but I am very glad that I cam here," said Djokovic. "The losses I had in the Olympic Games gave me even more desire to come here and perform my best and try to win a title. I truly did not expect to win." The US Open champion, who starts the defence of his title on August 27, broke Gasquet three times and won 84 percent of his first serve points. "I was just thinking about winning this tournament for the moment," he added. "Rankings are going to follow up with the success you have so I will try to perform my best next week and prepare as best I can for the US Open." The players move on to Cincinnati this week for the Western & Southern Open.
