Leonardo Mayer bounced back from his tearful Shanghai exit to beat Donald Young in the opening round of the Stockholm Open.
The Argentinian was visibly emotional after seeing five match points go begging last week against Roger Federer, who rubbed salt in Mayer's wounds by going on to win the tournament.
But Mayer, seeded fifth in the Swedish capital, emerged a winner on Tuesday, seeing off American Young 6-4 6-4.
Sixth seed Jeremy Chardy ended the hopes of 18-year-old Swedish prospect Elias Ymer with a 6-3 6-4 victory.
Seventh seed Fernando Verdasco defeated Marinko Matosevic 6-3 3-6 6-3, but eighth seed Joao Sousa was beaten 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 6-4 by Romanian qualifier Marius Copil.
France's Adrian Mannarino recovered from a set down to see off former champion Marcos Baghdatis 6-2 2-6 6-4.
