Sabine Lisicki has set a new record for the most aces served in a match on the WTA Tour after powering 27 unanswered serves past Belinda Bencic at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.
The German sent down 16 aces in the first set and 11 more in the second as she secured a 6-1 7-6 victory over her young Swiss opponent.
That was three more than the previous record of 24, held jointly by Kaia Kanepi and Serena Williams and set in in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
And Lisicki will be delighted to have her serve in such good working order ahead of Wimbledon, where she reached the final two years ago.
"It's nice to have another record," said Lisicki. "It's obviously a good weapon to have on grass.
“And I love playing on grass, so it's nice to be back at the Aegon Classic Birmingham."
Alexandra Stevenson fired down 25 aces in 2013 in a losing effort to American compatriot Alexandra Mueller but that effort came in a qualifying match.
