Great Britain have been installed as favourites to win the Davis Cup after making the semi-finals for the first time in 34 years.
Sky Bet make Leon Smith’s men 6/4 chances to win the game’s biggest team event after seeing off France 3-1 over the weekend, with semi-final opponents Australia considered 100/30 second favourites.
The Aussies had to rely on veteran Lleyton Hewitt to secure a 3-2 comeback victory over Kazakhstan, after youngsters Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios were dropped following singles defeats.
Belgium and Argentina will meet in the other semi-final after respective wins over Canada and Serbia, who were missing their leading players, Milos Raonic and Novak Djokovic.
World No 3 Andy Murray was the hero for Great Britain over the weekend, winning both singles rubbers and a doubles clash alongside brother Jamie, breaking down in tears after Sunday’s comeback victory over Gilles Simon.
The Scot is ranked 11 places above any other player left in the competition, with world No 14 David Goffin Belgium’s No 1, while Argentina saw off Serbia with world No 39 Leonardo Mayer as their highest-ranked player.
World No 29 Bernard Tomic is Australia’s No 1 but was not involved in their quarter-final win following a fall-out with Tennis Australia, although captain Wally Masur is hopeful of a reconciliation.
