Isner awaits for top seed in semi-final

Top seed Andy Roddick will meet fellow American John Isner in the semi-final of the Winston-Salem Open after both players claimed morale-boosting victories ahead of the US Open. Roddick, who exited in the first round of last week's Cincinnati Masters, prevailed 6-1 6-4 against seventh seed Juan Monaco from Argentina. He was totally dominant on his own delivery, landing 81 per cent of first serves as Monaco failed to register a single break. Isner had earlier earned a three-set win over Marcos Baghdatis, the man he will meet in the first round at Flushing Meadows next week. The fourth seed fired 12 aces, taking his tally for the week to 39, as he came from a set down to see off Cypriot Baghdatis 1-6 6-3 6-4 in just under two hours. Baghdatis cruised through the opener in just 22 minutes but Isner - who had lost early at the recent Montreal and Cincinnati Masters - produced a fine comeback. "I don't give guys a lot of rhythm, that's for sure," said Isner. "I play first-strike tennis and try to keep it on my terms. I want to keep the points short and mix things up a bit." Robin Haase will meet Julien Benneteau in the other semi-final after the former eliminated third seed Alexandr Dolgopolov. Dolgopolov served 15 aces but his Dutch opponent enjoyed more all-round consistency and eventually claimed a 6-4 6-4 victory. Benneteau produced an upset when he knocked out Sergiy Stakhovsky after coming back from a set down to secure a 3-6 7-6 6-2 win.
