World No.1 sees off unconventional Romanian

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki cruised through to the fourth round of the Australian Open after a straight-sets win over Monica Niculescu. Wozniacki was posed a few problems by the unconventional Romanian but she remained in charge to secure a 6-2 6-2 victory on Hisense Arena. Niculescu, the 31st seed, entertained the crowd with her style - hitting double-handed groundstrokes on both sides as well as mixing it up with the occasional sliced forehand and foray to the net. Wozniacki, though, rattled through the first set in just over half-hour, while the 21-year-old only blotted her copybook when she was broken serving for the match. But the Dane responded by breaking straight back to secure her place in the last 16 without dropping a set so far.

Aggressive

"There's not too much rhythm playing against Monica," Wozniacki said. "She slices the ball from both sides, she can play high and she can play aggressive. "You need to be fast on your feet to win the points because she's so fast." Wozniacki will face Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round after the Serbian saw off Christina McHale. Jankovic, the No.13 seed, was forced to work hard for the first set but she moved through the gears to claim a 6-2 6-0 victory over the American.
