Andy Murray's US Open odds are slashed after Tomas Berdych makes semis at the expense of Roger Federer.
Murray odds-on to make US Open final after Federer's exit
Sky Bet have cut Andy Murray's US Open odds from 3/1 to
2/1 after the British No.1 booked his place in the semi-finals while Roger Federer crashed out.
Murray will now face Tomas Berdych, who upset the odds to beat Federer in four, in Saturday's semi-final, having come from a set and two breaks down to beat Marin Cilic.
The Scot's price only shortened slightly after his comeback win over Cilic, during which he had drifted out to 7/4 to progress, but was then cut significantly as second favourite and world number one Federer was beaten.
Murray is now
4/9 to make the US Open final for a second time with Berdych
7/4 to upset another top seed and
9/1 to go on and claim the title, while Novak Djokovic is odds-on to retain his Flushing Meadows title at
4/5.
Expectations
Sky Bet's Ned Brooker said: "Murray would have been the slight outsider to win against Federer despite his recent Olympics final win over the world number one, where as we expect him to do the business against Berdych.
"The sixth seed may have been fantastic against Federer but his form has been poor over the summer, failing to make a quarter-final since before French Open until the recent 250 event in Winston-Salem.
"Berdych actually leads the head-to-head 4-2 but their only Grand Slam meeting came at the French Open, on Murray's least favoured surface, so it is a tough one to predict but Murray will certainly need to limit his opponent's free hitting after seeing him blast Federer off the court."
In the women's draw, Serena Williams is the heavy favourite at
1/3 with world number one Victoria Azarenka 4/1 and her semi-final opponent Maria Sharapova 15/2, while Sara Errani is a 28/1 outsider.
