Anna Chakvetadze beat Israeli 18th seed Shahar Peer 6-4 6-1 at the US Open to reach the semi-finals on Wednesday. The Russian, seeded sixth for the tournament, came from a break down in both sets to secure her place in the semi-finals Chakvetadze, who has won four titles this year, will now play in her first Grand Slam semi-final against former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova. "I'm so excited," said Chakvetadze. "I was so nervous before the match. Even though it was straight sets it was a really tough match. "(In the second set) I just started to play more aggressively and Shahar's level went down a bit, so I took my opportunity."

Russian duel

2004 champion Kuznetsova now awaits for Chakvetadze, as she made the semi-finals for the first time since her title victory three years ago. The Russian number four seed defeated Hungarian teenager Agnes Szavay 6-1 6-4 to book her place in the last four. "I am so happy with my performance today, especially in the first set," the fourth-seeded Kuznetsova said. "I felt very good and enjoyed it. I play Anna now and I am very happy there is definitely going to be one Russian in the final."
