Final lasts just 52 minutes

Spanish top seed David Ferrer cruised to a 6-1 6-2 win over Richard Gasquet of France to win the Japan Open. Ferrer broke the third seed's serve in the first game of a match and went on to race to victory in just 52 minutes. The 25-year-old wrapped up his third title of 2007 on his first match point, ending Gasquet's bid for back-to-back titles after his victory in Mumbai last week. Ferrer won $145,000 and became the first Spaniard since Manuel Orantes in 1977 to win the Tokyo title.

Honoured

"I'm honored," said Ferrer. "There are some pretty big names on this trophy. "Maybe Richard was a little tired because he played last week," Ferrer added. "I'm very happy to win this tournament and just want to enjoy the moment." Gasquet won in India the previous week but was no match for Ferrer. The Frenchman blamed fatigue for his sluggish performance; "I played 10 matches in two weeks -- it was a bit too much for me," said the Wimbledon semi-finalist. "I was feeling tired and it was just too difficult."
