Ivan Ljubicic's attempt to win the BC-AC Trophy in Vienna for a third year in succession came to an abrupt halt when he was dumped out by Italian Andreas Seppi on Friday. The world number 73 broke the Croatian third seed three times without reply to book his place in the semi-finals with a 6-3 6-3 triumph. "He probably made more unforced errors than normal today but hopefully one of the reasons for that was that I was able to put him under some pressure," Seppi said. A native German speaker from the Austrian-bordering South Tyrol region of Italy, Seppi had reached only two previous ATP quarter-finals this season at Austria's Kitzbuehel tournament and the Swiss Open in Gstaad. The defeat also dented Ljubicic's hopes of reaching the season-ending Masters Cup, as he entered the week just 13 points behind the eighth-placed Tommy Robredo.

Djokovic through

Seppi will now play top seed Novak Djokovic, who fought back from two match points down before reaching the last four with a 6-3 5-7 7-6 (7-2) victory against Juan Ignacio Chela. The top-seeded Serb faced two match points while 5-4 down in the third set, but he managed to save both before holding his serve. Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka has also reached the last four after beating 2004 champion Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (8-10) 6-3 6-4. He will now meet Juan Carlos Ferrero in the last four, after the Spanish former world number one defeated second seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-3 4-6 6-4.
