Argentine follows up Madrid success

David Nalbandian scored a second victory over Roger Federer inside two weeks with a 6-4 7-6 success in the Paris Masters. The Argentine, who beat the world number one in the final of the Madrid Masters 11 days ago, continued his resurgence with a confident performance to book his place in the last eight. Nalbandian raced into a 5-2 lead before Federer hit back, but after saving five set points the Swiss could do nothing to stop a rasping cross-court winner that clinched the first set. Once more Nalbandian claimed the first break in the second set and served for the match before Federer came back again to force a tie-break. But the underdog held the upper hand, hitting a forehand long on match point before sealing victory 7-3 on the second. "He's so dominant from the baseline," said Federer. "It was tough to adjust. "It's tough to be aggressive three metres behind the baseline. I wish the court could be faster - that's how it's supposed to be indoors - but I guess not here." It now takes Nalbandian's record against Federer to 8-8 in all matches, and he next faces fifth seed David Ferrer for a place in the last four.
