Former world No.1 secures 18th win in 19 matches since returning

Lindsey Davenport made it 18 wins from 19 matches since returning to the WTA circuit to lift the Auckland Classic title on Saturday. The former world No.1, who took a break from the sport to become a mother, needed just 51 minutes to overcome France's Aravane Rezai 6-2 6-2 in the final. And the 31-year-old, who has now one three out of the four tournaments she has entered since her comeback, can't believe how well things have gone. She said: "I was happy with the way I was able to play well at times. "I started off playing a few of the smaller tournaments, tier threes and fours, and it's astonished me. "I didn't think my body would bounce back as fast as it has after giving birth and the strain of pregnancy, so I'm excited now about going to the huge stage of the Australian Open and seeing what can happen." Davenport produced a display of power and precision tennis as she took apart Rezai. The Frenchwoman had reached the final without dropping a set, but her game fell apart against the American as she failed to put Davenport under any pressure. And she admitted: "It's not impossible to beat her, but she did not give me time to play some good shots."
