Argentinian Juan Monaco defeated compatriot Juan Pablo Brzezicki to make the semi-finals of the Movistar Open in Chile, where top seed and home Fernando Gonzalez also went through.
Third-seeded Monaco had little trouble disposing of unseeded Brzezicki, who was appearing in his first ever ATP quarter-final, with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 success at the claycourt event.
Monaco will now go up against another unseeded opponent with Spaniard Santiago Ventura, waiting in the semis, after his 6-3 6-3 win over Fabio Fognini of Italy.
Ventura broke Fognini three times in eight chances to roll to the straight-sets win in 79 minutes.
Seventh seed Jose Acasuso of Argentina, who won both the singles and doubles events at Vina del Mar in 2006, was sent crashing out after a straight sets loss to unseeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.
Cuevas stunned fourth seed Fernando Verdasco in the second round and his run continued with a 6-3 6-3 success against Acasuso.
Cuevas will now face top seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, who survived a difficult opening set to dispose of Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 7-5 6-0.
Berlocq matched Gonzalez in the early stages but the Chilean, who won at Vina del Mar in 2002 and 2004, won eight consecutive games to claim victory in 82 minutes.
