Sixth-seed given a fright at the Bangalore Open

Sixth-seeded Sybille Bammer praised Akiko Morigami after the Japanese ace almost caused an upset in the opening round of the Bangalore Open. Austrian Bammer bounced back from losing the opening set to topple Morigami 2-6 6-3 7-5. And the world No.20 admitted: "Akiko is a good player and she gave me a tough contest "The altitude was a big factor today and I also struggled in getting accustomed to the variable bounce." Sybille looked on course for an early exit as Morigami dictated the pace to run away with the opening set. However, she battled back in the second set to force the decisive break in the eighth game. Morigami refused to give up, though, and although she dropped her serve in the third game of the decider she broke back in the sixth and then the eighth to lead. However, the pressure began to tell on the Japanese player and a series of unforced errors saw Bammer snatch the win. Aiko Nakamura also came from a set down to reach the second round as she saw off Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 6-2.
