Tomas Berdych completed the men's quarter-final line-up at Wimbledon by beating Jiri Vesely to set up a last eight showdown with Lucas Pouille.

Berdych's match was the final last-16 encounter to be completed after darkness brought a halt to proceedings on Monday evening with the match level at two sets all after Vesely claimed a dramatic tie-break just after 9pm.

However upon their return in Tuesday's bright sunshine it was Berdych who made the all-important breakthrough on his compatriot's first service game for the solitary break of the deciding set. The 10th seed went on to close out a 4-6 6-3 7-6 6-7 6-3 victory.

Berdych will next meet French 32nd seed Lucas Pouille on Wednesday for a place in the last four and he will be pleased to have got through the match in fairly routine fashion.

The pair had left the contest level on Monday night when the umpire called time, although Berdych, who has suffered a string of delays at the tournament, tried to get the match moved to Centre Court to be finished under the floodlit roof.

It was not to be and he returned for third successive day to make the last eight at the All England Club for the first time since 2013.
