Robby Ginepri set up a second-round showdown with Spaniard Carlos Moya after a convincing win over Vincent Spadea at the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells. The unseeded American hardly broke into a sweat as he needed little more than an hour to topple Spadea 6-1 6-1 for only his second win in six attempts against his compatriot. The 25-year-old is joined in the next round by rising star Donald Young, who cruised past Bobby Reynolds 6-3 6-4 to set up a second-round clash with Feliciano Lopez. Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman overcame Filippo Volandri 6-3 7-6 (7-5) to open his Masters bid with a win, while fellow countryman Robin Soderling eased to a 6-3 6-3 win over Sebastien Grosjean. Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo's reward for defeating Austrian Werner Eschauer 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 is a second-round meeting with world number two Rafael Nadal. There were also first-round wins for Andreas Seppi, who beat Paul Capdeville 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-2; Lee Hyung-Taik, who saw off Michael Llodra 6-2 6-3; and Dudi Sela, who battled past Nicolas Kiefer 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-3.
