Long day ends in defeat for Andreev

Victor Hanescu beat Igor Andreev 6-3 6-4 to win his first ATP Tour title in Gstaad. The Romanian needed only 70 minutes to defeat seventh seed Andreev, just hours after the Russian had completed his rain-delayed semi-final against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. "It's so great to win my first title here, this is something I will surely never forget," said Hanescu, whose only previous final appearance was in his home event in Bucharest last September. Hanescu's career has been badly affected by back injuries, but the world number 80 was dominant throughout the final. Andreev, the 2004 runner-up to Roger Federer, made no excuses despite having to be out on court in the morning to conclude his match against Garcia-Lopez. The world number 34 edged out his opponent 7-6 5-7 7-6 to reach his second Gstaad final but said he was not affected against Hanescu. "I've been unlucky here twice, but I will be back," Andreev said. "I wasn't so tired from playing twice, but Victor was just too good. He was unbeatable today."
