Frenchman will face Roddick in last eight
France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga produced the biggest upset of the Paris Masters so far when he beat world number three Novak Djokovic 6-4 1-6 6-3 in the third round.
The Frenchman thrilled the home crowd as he revenged his Australian Open final defeat to the Serb, while in the process setting up a quarter-final against American Andy Roddick.
The 13th seed got off to a bright start, breaking decisively in the fifth game to take the opening set before struggling through the second.
Tsonga, who was sidelined with a knee injury for three months before the US Open, hit back almost immediately in the second game, breaking with a superb cross-court passing shot.
Masters Cup
He then held serve until sealing the win on his second match point with an ace.
Tsonga needs to win the tournament to qualify for the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.
"Bercy is my home and you need my permission to get in and today, I would not give that permission," Tsonga told the crowd.
"For now, I don't think about (the Masters Cup). I take it match by match. If I beat Andy, maybe I can snatch a place. So we will see."
Meanwhile, Roger Federer beat Marin Cilic 6-3 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2003. The Swiss world number two has never reached the Paris semi-finals.
