Rusedski shelves comeback plans after Dasvis Cup snub

Former British number one Greg Rusedski has abandoned plans for a comeback after not being considered for the Davis Cup team. 35-year-old Rusedski retired from competitive tennis in 2007, but it emerged that he was considering a comeback to the game. Rusedski was even thought to be working on his fitness in preparation for a return to the court, most probably for the Great Britain Davis Cup team. However, after the information became public, a disappointed Rusedski has now shelved the plans and insists he will not attempt another comeback. "It's not happening ever again. I'm done. Sometimes it's better to let things go and so you can quote me on this," Rusedski told The Gaurdian.

Retired

"I'm not coming back ever again. I'm happy to be officially retired. "I wish it had been kept quiet. The only time I spoke about it was after it was in all the newspapers. "They asked me about it and my initial reaction was disappointment. I'd worked really hard for the last two and a half months and I'm thinking: 'I'd still like to play and give it a shot.' But I only got into this whole thing because I want to help." Andy Murray had spoken out against Rusedski getting a place in the GB Davis Cup side, and captain John Lloyd agreed as he overlooked the left-hander and announced a play-off for the place alongside Murray. After missing out on a possible return for Britain's clash with Ukraine in Glasgow next month, Rusedski was disappointed not to have been given a chance by Lloyd.
Opportunity
"John could have taken me back and given me the opportunity - but he decided to go with the youngsters," added Rusedski. "I've had a long relationship with John so good luck to him. "We'll see what happens in this tie. I'm not going to be part of it now, which is fine, but one of these young guys needs to step up."
