Top seed too strong for compatriot
Top-seed Andy Roddick produced a dominant display to reach the quarter-finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.
Roddick fired down 11 aces and won 77 per cent of his first-serve points as he brushed aside Robby Ginepri 6-2 6-3 in just 61 minutes.
The 26-year-old, who won the title in 2002 and has twice been a beaten finalist, will now take on compatriot Sam Querrey - a 6-1 6-2 victor over Marcos Baghdatis.
Former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt admits he is feeling good after reaching the last eight in Memphis.
Hewitt defeated fellow Australian Chris Guccione 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to follow up his victory over third seed James Blake in the previous round.
And Hewitt, who endured an injury-ravaged 2008, is delighted to be back winning again.
Happy
"I'm feeling pretty good about the way things are going," Hewitt said.
"Jim and I did a lot of moving in that three-set match and I was happy with the result. Today against Guccione, there weren't so many long points, and that was probably good.
"The thing for me right now is getting used to match conditions again, playing a lot of guys, going through a lot of big points.
"No matter how good you feel on the practice court, you have to keep playing matches to get sharp. That's what I'm working on now."
Christophe Rochus produced one of the shocks of the round as he ousted seventh-seeded Mardy Fish 6-2 6-4.
However second seed Juan Martin Del Potro and fifth-seeded Czech Radek Stepanek both avoided upsets.
Argentina's Del Potro defeated Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-3 6-4, while Stepanek powered past Stefan Koubek 6-2 6-4.
Unseeded Russian Igor Kunitsyn edged out Philipp Petzschner 3-6 6-4 6-4, while Dudi Sela got the better of Florent Serra 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-4).
