Serb continues to sparkle in Spain

Number two seed Jelena Jankovic powered into the quarter-finals of the WTA Marbella Open with a 6-3 6-0 victory over Selima Sfar. The Serbian needed just 78 minutes to overcome the unseeded Tunisian and remains the top-ranked women left in the competition following Serena Williams' shock first round defeat. Jankovic's comfortable victory sets up a last eight showdown with Italian Roberta Vinci. Elsewhere, Klara Zakopalova added to her shock success over Williams with a hard-fought win over compatriot Renata Voracova.

Blown away

There was little to separate the Czechs in the first two sets but eventually the world number 95 prevailed a 7-6 5-7 6-0 winner. Fifth seed Carla Suarez Navarro overcame a disastrous opening to her match against Ekaterina Ivanova to set up a quarter-final clash with Zakopalova. The home favourite was blown away in the first set but powered back strongly in a 0-6 6-3 6-0 victory. Italy's sixth seed Sara Errani is also safely through after a 6-0 7-6 win over Slovenia's Polona Hercog. World number 21 Kaia Kanepi claimed the expected victory over Holland's Arantxa Rus, beating her 142nd-ranked opponent 7-5 6-2.
