O2 set to hold biggest indoor tennis event
This year's Barclays ATP World Tour Finals will be held at London's O2 Arena in London on November 22, and
Sky Sports will be on hand to provide you with coverage of this prestigious season finale.
The flagship event of the ATP Tour, the tournament will be the biggest indoor tennis event in the world ever, with over £3 million in total prize money and 1,500 ATP Rankings points at stake for the winner.
Sue Ashworth of
Sky Sports said: "The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is a special event and it's great news that such a prestigious tournament is moving to The O2 in London. It's a terrific format for the viewers and we're very excited to be involved from start to finish.
"This event is the culmination of year-round qualification, resulting in the top eight players in the world battling it out. This season-ending championship is integral to
Sky Sports' year-round coverage of tennis, which includes live coverage of all the ATP World Tour Masters 1000s, matches from the ATP World Tour 500s and the US Open live in HD."
Over 150,000 tickets have already been sold for the tournament, with 65,000 more gone on sale this week, and with spectators guaranteed to see the best eight players in the world on at least three occasions, they are bound to sell out fast.
Reigning ATP World Tour Champion Rafael Nadal is the first player to qualify for this year's event, following a brilliant start to the season. The Spaniard captured his sixth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open at the start of the year, as well as three Masters tournaments.
"I am very happy to have officially qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals," said the 22-year-old. "To qualify for the event in London is great as it was one of my goals of the season and clearly something important that shows that this season has already been a great success for me.
"London is a city that brings me great memories since last year I won Wimbledon and Queen's and the fans have really supported me each year that I've played there. I am really looking forward to this fantastic event that I am sure will be a great success."
This year sees the tournament celebrate its 40th anniversary. Previous champions have included some of the world's greatest ever players. John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Andre Agassi and Boris Becker are all past winners, as well as four-time winner Roger Federer, who last triumphed in 2007.
Federer is sure to be involved in this year's competition, as is Andy Murray, who this month moved into third in the world rankings. The British number one reached the semi-finals of last year's competition and will be hoping to progress even further on home soil.
