Fittingly Pete Sampras, who retired with 14 Grand Slam titles, is in the crowd to watch Federer triumph but nobody could have anticipated what he had to go through in order to get the job down. Indeed he only broke Roddick once in the entire match and that obviously came right at the very end of this absorbing men's final. 1829 : He's done it! Roger Federer has won his 15th Grand Slam title after Roddick sends a shot high into the air and out of play! The history-maker lets out a huge roar of delight in celebration and one of the most incredibly matches of all time finally comes to an end after four hours and 16 minutes. Final Score: Federer beats Roddick 5-7 7-6 (8/6) 7-6 (7/5) 3-6 16-14. 1828 : Federer does well to get his first return back and is rewarded when Roddick finds the net to fall 0-15 down. The American then makes another error early in the next rally and all of a sudden the crowd prepare to take some celebration photos. However, they may have to wait a little longer as a two successive big serves help him level the score at 30-30 before another sees him edge ahead. He just won't lie down will he? Roddick then fails to get his next first serve in and Federer takes advantage to force the error and bring up deuce. Under pressure the sixth seed pulls another unrelenting first serve out of the hat to earn an advantage point but then follows this up with a long forehand to go back to deuce. He hits long once again as Federer finally brings up a championship point... 1822 : Mistakes are being made but there is still so much quality out in display and Federer is more than matching his errors with sublime winners throughout these nervous times. He holds with ease to love although don't count on this match ending after the next game! Roddick 14 Federer 15 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1820 : Roddick's backhand from the baseline swirls out of play to give Federer a foothold in this game at 0-15 but the Swiss star then too casually attempts a sliced return which also drifts wide. Federer then loops a tame return back on the next point but Roddick completely misses it on the bounce and falls 15-30 down. A drilled passing shot down the line from Federer during the next rally crashes into the net and then Roddick kills off the game to stay alive again. Roddick 14 Federer 14 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1816 : Federer smashes down his 49th ace of the match to go 30-0 up and two subsequent errors from Roddick see yet another game pass by without a break of serve. If this goes on the roof might be needed later for the floodlights! Roddick 13 Federer 14 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1814 : In what has now become the longest final set in a men's Wimbledon final, Roddick must hold serve to stay in this titanic final. Federer crucially wins the opening point with a rasping forehand winner from the baseline but it's soon 15-15 when he hits the net during the next rally. A stunningly hard angled forehand winner then flashes past Federer, who can't get Roddick's next serve back over the net. At 40-15 Federer doesn't give up hope and a sliced backhand cross-court shot to the back corner gives Roddick too much to do and he then finds the net. Federer produces more class in the next rally with a clean winner and now it's deuce, but this doesn't last for long as Roddick crashes down a powerful first serve which the Swiss can't return. The game ends when Federer's next return goes into the net and he must be kicking himself that another opportunity has gone. Roddick 13 Federer 13 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1809 : Both players are evidently tired and unfortunately it will probably be mistakes which proves decisive in this game. At 15-0 Federer then makes too jaded errors but responds with ace to make it 30-30. He repeats the feat for his 100th winner of the match - but you can make that 101 when he fires another ace down! That's all very impressive, but can he actually break? Roddick 12 Federer 13 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1805 : Roddick slams down an ace before a Federer return flies high into the air and eventually into the crowd. It seems as if the Swiss has given up on this particular game when another return goes way out of play and moments later he drills into the net. Roddick 12 Federer 12 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1803 : Wow. At 15-0, Federer unleashes three merciless aces on the trot to put him on the bring of victory once again. But can he do it this time? Roddick 11 Federer 12 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1802 : Roddick is serving to stay in the match yet again and is gifted a nerve-settling start when Federer hits a slice just long during another testing rally. The Swiss can't return the next serve although cuts the lead to 30-15 when Roddick finds the net. A poor return from Federer sails behind, making Roddick's life much easier than it could be but the American struggles to finish it off when hitting a ball out in the next rally. Then deuce is called after Roddick loops a forehand from the baseline out of play and this is now a huge opportunity which Federer must take. However it's Roddick who prevails with two big serves which Federer can't return and we're now back to all square. Roddick 11 Federer 11 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1756 : At 15-0 the players are involved in another emotionally draining rally but once more it's Federer who cracks when driving a forehand in mid-court long. However he shows nerves of steel to win the next three points on the bounce - the last of which being an ace - to take the game. Roddick 10 Federer 11 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1753 : The pressure is mounting on Roddick as Federer makes it 15-15 but the American digs deep in the next rally to force his opponent into mistake. An ace brings up 40-15 and the game is over when a Federer return hits the net. That's now 20 holds of serve in this incredible final set. Roddick 10 Federer 10 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1750 : A fragile Federer falls 0-15 at the start of this game but after Roddick hits a shot wide he regains his composure to thrash a lovely down-the-line winner. An ace makes it 40-15 but Roddick just doesn't know when he's beaten and pulls out an on-the-run backhand winner down the line to leave a despairing Federer stunned. However the Swiss seals the game with an ace but Roddick is dismayed to see a Hawkeye challenge prove the ball was in. Roddick can't let these things bother him - he must continue to be focused on everything in his control or else he'll lose. Roddick 9 Federer 10 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1748 : Roddick isn't giving Federer a sniff on his serve but the Swiss doesn't help himself with a growing number of unforced errors during the rallies. Two silly mistakes see him fall 30-0 down and he really does look vulnerable out there - as we said much earlier today. It's seemingly just like last year's dramatic defeat to Nadal. Roddick gifts Federer the next point but an absolutely brilliant drop shot at the net - displaying real world class instinct - makes it 40-15 and another error from his opponent sees him clinch the game. Roddick 9 Federer 9 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3).1745 : Federer drops the first point on serve after a clinical volley from Roddick at the net but it's all square when the American is unlucky to see his shot from the baseline clip the top of the net cord and fall on his side of the court. However after a Federer error, he then produces a stunning backhand winner down the line to earn himself two break points! Could this be the pivotal moment in this final set? Federer holds his nerve to save them both, thanks to a confident driving forehand, and two consecutive errors from Roddick gives him a topsy-turvy game. Roddick 8 Federer 9 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1740 : Roddick opens up with an ace and then goes 30-0 up when a Federer return goes straight into the net. The deficit is cut to 30-15 when Roddick fails to get a backhand over but another helpless return from Federer moves the score along to 40-15. The American then drills a winner to hold serve and now the pressure is back on Federer. Roddick 8 Federer 8 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1738 : Just when you think Federer is cracking under the pressure following a double fault to make it 15-15, he then produces a stunning swirling smash from deep which bounces in and gives Roddick no chance. Then a sublime slice at the net just about stays in on the right to give him another winner before rounding the game off with an ace. Roddick 7 Federer 8 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1736 : Roddick wins the first point but then he errors by blasting a forehand into the net. Federer however is unable to take advantage when framing a shot well long as Roddick sneaks ahead once more. A long rally follows but it's Federer again who makes the critical mistake with another long forehand. The game isn't over yet though and Roddick gives Federer another glimmer of hope when finding the net. Moments later the game is sealed with another poor Federer shot not making it over and you have to wonder if he's got a mental block on the Roddick serve in this match. Roddick 7 Federer 7 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1731 : Federer is looking more fragile than his opponent at times and while leading 30-0 he hits a shot well out of play to give Roddick hope. The American then somehow reaches a majestic drop shot from Federer before lifting it gently over the net cord to make it 30-30. A cool-as-you-like winner from Federer at the nets puts him back in front before Roddick returns into the net. Roddick 6 Federer 7 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1729 : Roddick just about wins the opening point of this game when a forehand winner clips the baseline but Federer responds with the most delightful of flicked forehands at the net, to lift it over to an unguarded quarter of the court. But Roddick's killer serving helps him win the next two points before a drilled backhand down the line sees him level the set score. Roddick 6 Federer 6 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1725 : Federer continues to serve with awesome accuracy as races into a 40-0 lead but he balloons a forehand from the baseline during the next rally to gift Roddick a free point. The Swiss maestro then thunders down another commanding ace and once again he's just a single game from victory. This is just too nerve-wracking to watch right now - something has to give soon! Roddick 5 Federer 6 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1722 : The crowd are really urging the Fed Express on at the start of this game but Roddick's opening serve is too hard to get back over the net. Federer then hits his next return long for 30-0 and a sizzling ace follows to reassure Roddick's fans that he won't crumble under this immense pressure. The American then hammers a winning forehand in the next rally to clinch the game. Roddick 5 Federer 5 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1719 : Federer wins a cagey rally when a Roddick backhand drifts wide and he then slams down two successive aces to move 40-0 up. A mis-hit shot from the baseline sails out as Roddick pulls a point back but the next is another unstoppable ace. Federer is now just one game from a historic victory! Roddick 4 Federer 5 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1717 : It's also so difficult to tell who the crowd want to win. Obviously a lot of fans want to see history books re-written today if Federer can claim his 15th Grand Slam title but there's always those who root for the underdog. Roddick overcomes a scare at to fall 0-15 down but recovers with confidence to win the next four points. Roddick 4 Federer 4 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1714 : It really is edge of your seat stuff now but it's impossible to say which way this is going. Obviously Roddick has proved he can break the Federer serve and he clearly wants victory just as much but anything can happen in a fifth set of a Grand Slam final. It's another easy hold for Federer under these pressurised circumstances and now it's over to Roddick. Roddick 3 Federer 4 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1712 : Perfect start for Federer as he moves 0-15 up but Roddick responds with a ruthless forehand winner with his opponent stranded on the baseline. The American makes life difficult for Federer during the next point and the Swiss can only find the net. A powerful serve then hits Federer's frame for 40-15 and two points later the game is secure. Roddick 3 Federer 3 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1708 : Three aces and a big forehand winner completes an easy hold for Federer and he can now focus his energies during the break between games on how to overcome the mighty serve of Roddick. Roddick 2 Federer 3 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1706 : Is this going to be Roddick's best ever chance to win Wimbledon while Federer is still around? The American couldn't have played much better and if he can't clinch the title today it might be a real killer blow for him. That said could this whole fortnight give him renewed belief that he can challenge for honors on the Grand Slam stage? He comfortable holds to love in his next service game as the pressure increases ever more. Roddick 2 Federer 2 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1704 : Federer pounces at the net with a leaping forehand volley, which just sneaks in after a Hawkeye challenge, to move 40-15 and then calmly serves out for a 2-1 lead in this deciding fifth set. Roddick 1 Federer 2 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1700 : At 30-15 on Roddick's serve, the pair trade draining ground stroke from the baseline but eventually it's the American who buckles first, sending a shot into the net. Then an absolute magical angled backhand beats a diving Roddick at the net and brings up a valuable break point which he's be desperate to take. However Roddick manages to save his sixth break point of the match before sending down an 138mph ace to take advantage. Federer's next return goes into the net and that's another chance gone begging. Roddick 1 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1657 : Federer starts this deciding set with an comfortable hold but it's certainly a tense atmosphere out on Centre Court. The Swiss ace is yet to break Roddick's serve but simply has to in this set if he's to claim his 15th Grand Slam title. Roddick 0 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7) 6-3). 1653 : Federer steps up a gear when thumping a clean forehand winner past Roddick to move 0-30 up after the American had previous found the net in the opening point. However the Swiss hits wide in the next rally before a long forehand flies out of play to restore parity at 30-30. In another nerve-jangling rally Roddick stays alive and forces Federer into an error at the net and this brings up set point. Roddick fires down a powerful first-serve which Federer can only return long and a deciding fifth set is required to determine the winner of this Wimbledon final. Roddick 6 Federer 3 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1649 : Roddick slips on the baseline and his fall looks awkward. Fortunately he seems OK to continue but can't stop Federer cruising to an easy service hold. Roddick 5 Federer 3 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1646 : Roddick displays signs of nerves when a double fault contributes to a 30-0 lead being frittered away. But after a superb exchange of battering forehands from the baseline, the American edges ahead again before another winner sees him clinch a crucial game in this tense final. Roddick 5 Federer 2 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1643 : Federer glides into a 40-0 lead but he's then put under pressure when first sending a baseline shot well long before a lovely pick-up forehand from Roddick flashes past for a superb winner. An ace finishes off the game but he's still a break down in this fourth set. Roddick 4 Federer 2 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1640 : Federer is eager to break back and at 30-15 down he rushes to the net before planting a clinical forehand volley well out of reach of Roddick. In the next point a careless shot from Federer on the baseline finds the net but he forces deuce with an unstoppable winner past the American. A breathtaking rally then follows which Roddick takes after Federer's valiant attempt to reach a sublime drop shot ends with him sending a wristy shot into the net. The sixth seed then clenches his fist after seizing the game when once again Federer finds the net. Roddick 4 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1634 : Roddick has another half-chance to break after a Federer error sees him move 15-30 in front. A chip and charge then proves successful as his backhand volley at the net beats Federer and the American now has two break points. The world number two hammers down an ace to save one of them but then Roddick virtually sinks to his knees with delight when Federer is unable to get back a blistering backhand down the line. What a key moment that could be! Roddick 3 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1631 : An easy service hold for Roddick, who hasn't actually been broken yet. He simply has to find a way to break Federer or else his dream of becoming Wimbledon champion will be over for another year. Either that he or manages to win a tie-break Roddick 2 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1628 : A moment of complacency from Federer sees him slip behind 15-30 on serve but he gives himself a talking to before leveling the score. Roddick then errors twice in succession to give the game to Federer, who must now have his eyes on that 15th Grand Slam title. Roddick 1 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1625 : It's going to be almost mission impossible for Roddick to win from here against Federer now the Swiss star has the finish line in sight but he holds his nerve and serve in the opening game of this fourth set. Roddick 1 Federer 0 (7-5 6-7 (6/8) 6-7 (5/7)). 1622 : Federer's first serve is strong and although Roddick is able to send a looping return back, the Swiss ace coolly slots home a forehand volleyed winner to take the set. Roddick 6 (5) Federer 7 (7) (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1621 : Roddick holds his two service points to trail 6-5 but now the ball is in Federer's hands. Can he convert his third set point? 1620 : Roddick produces a fine winner to cut the deficit - and cancel out one of the mini-breaks - but Federer puffs out his cheeks with relief when watching his cross-court forehand effort land in to bring up three set points at 6-3. 1618 : Federer is running away with this tie-break as Roddick, the server, fires into the net with a forehand from the baseline during a nervy rally. The American regains composure to unleash a forehand winner in the next point but Federer leads 5-2 with two serves to come. 1617 : The opening two points go with serve but then Roddick is then broken when putting a sliced backhand into the net from close in. Federer makes the most of his advantage with an exquisite cross-court forehand winner from the baseline and when Roddick hits long during the next point he opens up a 4-1 lead in this third set tie-break. 1612 : Roddick to his credit is displaying great resilience to hang in during this set but a third double fault of the match so far sees him brought back to 15-15. A stunning forehand passing winner down the line beats Roddick all ends up although an ace means it's now 30-30. Roddick sends a waiting and watching Federer the wrong way with a ruthless forehand from mid-court to move 40-30 up and when this Swiss ends the next rally by driving into the net, we have another tie-break. Roddick 6 Federer 6 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1608 : Federer is untouchable on serve once again, although so nearly overhits a sliced backhand volley at the net as he moves 40-0 ahead. The former five-time champion here then fires down an ace and is once again a break away from taking the third set. Roddick 5 Federer 6 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1607 : Roddick is making hard work of this service hold and seems to have completely lost his concentration and rhythm. Having led 30-0, a couple of errors allow Federer back in it but he's then relieved to see his opponent fire into the net. The same happens in the next point after a longer rally so Roddick manages to survive. Roddick 5 Federer 5 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1603 : Julia Ledger has emailed in to say: "I am a Federer fan but he is not his usual calm and composed self at Centre Court. I feel a grudging admiration for Andy!" Federer is beginning to find his natural groove although I agree he's far from his vintage best. The address to get in touch is christopher.hammer@bskyb.com 1601 : Federer is so controlled and accurate in his shot selection right now, and a cracking cross-court backhand winner from the baseline puts him in full control of this game at 30-0. Two more easy points follow in quick succession and he's now within touching distance of taking this third set. Roddick 4 Federer 5 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1559 : At 30-0 Roddick still doesn't ooze the apparent confidence of his counterpart and a sloppy error gives Federer a way back into this game. The sixth seed then pulls out an important ace, just when he needed it, to restore the two-point cushion and then finishes the game off with another of those forehand volleys at the net. Roddick 4 Federer 4 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1556 : By contrast this is a far simpler hold for Federer, who certainly is in the ascendancy right now. He's extremely clinical as usual when the ball is in his hand while he's the one creating all chances on his opponent's serve. Roddick 3 Federer 4 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1554 : The atmosphere has gone a little flat as the crowd wait patiently for another one of those thrilling rallies which made the second set a classic. They don't have to wait much longer as Federer dazzles them with a divine backhand stop volley at the net to leave Roddick rooted to the spot on the baseline. Another quite brilliant winner - this time a cross-court forehand effort from the baseline - levels the game score at 30-30 and a break point is earned when Roddick floats a volley long. The American's next first serve is big and Federer can't get enough on it to return over the net. Roddick then digs deep in another rally, executing a deep volley which forces Federer into drilling a shot into the net from the baseline. The Swiss ace brings in back to deuce with a wonderful backhand down the line and once again the pressure is back on Roddick. A lucky net cord puts a scampering Roddick in trouble but he manages to get there before crucially taking the point. He completes the game with a ruthless forehand winner but those were dangerous moments for the American. Roddick 3 Federer 3 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1547 : In regulation tennis neither man looks in any danger on serve, especially during the opening stages of all three sets so far. It's almost as if they're both waiting for a crucial opportunity at the business end of the set. In this game Federer only drops one point in another routine hold. Roddick 2 Federer 3 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1545 : Roddick now holds to love and maybe he won't be as affected by the tie-breaker as we all thought. He's looking cool and composed although I'm sure at the back of his mind he knows she should be holding a 2-0 set lead. Let me know your thoughts by emailing christopher.hammer@bskyb.com. Roddick 2 Federer 2 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1543 : Easy as you like from Federer as he continues to dominate on serve. He was clearly pumped up after clinching the second set and it's surely given him renewed belief that he can finally get the job done and claim his 15th Grand Slam title. Roddick 1 Federer 2 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1541 : Roddick looks as though he's recovered from that tie-break capitulation with a comfortable hold, the highlight being a lovely whipped passing winner on the second point. Roddick 1 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1538 : Federer is in cruise control as he races into a 40-0 lead on serve in the opening game of this third set. Although Roddick pulls a point back with a fierce backhand winner, the American then hits his next return into the net. Roddick 0 Federer 1 (7-5 6-7 (6/8)). 1535 : Roddick actually left court after the conclusion to that tie-break and I wonder if he has the mental resolve to regroup and put that nightmare out of his head. He can't let it affect him too much or Federer will seize on any sign of fragility. 1534 : Federer completes a remarkable comeback with a mini-break of his own before finishing it off when Roddick loses his head once again and blasts long. The momentum is well and truly with the Swiss star now while Roddick must feeling absolutely dejected with his failure to finish that set off. Roddick 6 (6) Federer 7 (8) (First Set: 7-5). 1532 : Roddick chokes! Four break points gone after his woeful overhead backhand volley at the net goes well wide on the opposite side of the court. It's now 6-6 in this most dramatic of tie-breaks! 1530 : A controlled cross-court backhand winner from Federer gives him alive - but is it too late? The Swiss maestro then confidently wins his next two service points but now Roddick has the ball in his hand... 1529 : It's 6-2 to Roddick in this tie-breaker after confidently racing to the net to push home a firm volley... 1528 : The American breaks again to lead 5-1 although Federer does pull one back on his next serve. If Roddick is able to win his next two service points, the second set will be his... 1527 : Roddick leads the tie-break 4-1 after easily holding his two service points and Federer is up against it now. This could be disastrous for the 14-time Grand Slam champion. 1525 : The incredible tie-break stat doing the rounds is that Roddick has won 26 of the 30 he's been involved in this year! And it looks like it could go his way again when earning a mini-break on Federer's first service point, having opened up with an ace. 1523 : A serene backhand winner puts Federer 15-0 up before two successive aces puts him within one point of forcing a tie-break. A loose attempt at a drop shot from the baseline hits the net, giving Roddick a glimmer of hope, but the game is over moments later. Roddick 6 Federer 6 (First Set: 7-5). 1521 : The pressure is building but so is the quality as Roddick continues to maintain his confidence on serve for another easy hold - completing this game with a driven forehand volley at the net. Roddick 6 Federer 5 (First Set: 7-5). 1519 : Roddick loses a tight Hawkeye appeal on a Federer forehand he felt was long to be hauled back to 15-15 having sneaked ahead. Then at 30-15, Federer then double faults and this is a clear sign that the great man is struggling to cope with the pressure out on Centre Court today. However he battles back with a clean winner to go 40-30 up but he saves his best to finish off a wonderful 43-stroke rally with a delightful drop shot, which is greeted by a sustained cheer from the thoroughly entertained crowd. Roddick 5 Federer 5 (First Set: 7-5). 1514 : A confident hold for Roddick and right now he's not even giving Federer a remote chance of breaking him. This surely has to change quickly or else the Swiss star could leave himself faced with a mountain to climb. Roddick 5 Federer 4 (First Set: 7-5). 1511 : There's something not quite right about Federer this afternoon - he's looking vulnerable, just like he did in last year's final against Rafael Nadal. Despite moments of brilliance you're just left to question whether he's mentally on top of his game and he looks a little worried when falling 0-15 down. He regains some composure to cruise through the next four points but long-term there's reason for Federer fans to be concerned. Roddick 4 Federer 4 (First Set: 7-5) 1509 : At 15-15, Roddick comes to the net with success once again, firmly striking a strong volleyed winner past Federer. He takes the next two points, the second of which another ace, to edge ahead in this second set. Roddick 4 Federer 3 (First Set: 7-5). 1506 : It's another easy yet unremarkable hold of serve for Federer, who relies predominantly on Roddick to make the mistakes. Roddick 3 Federer 3 (First Set: 7-5). 1504 : Roddick glides ahead 30-0 but a double fault cuts his lead in half. However the sixth seed gets back on track with two fierce first serves which Federer returns into the net and the game is over. Roddick 3 Federer 2 (First Set: 7-5). 1500 : Federer is now evidently alert to Roddick's rushing tactic to the net, this time passing the American with a fine forehand winner from the baseline to go 30-0 up. An ace follows and moments later the game. Roddick 2 Federer 2 (First Set: 7-5). 1458 : Roddick picks a bad time to double fault at 15-15 to give Federer a sniff of a potential break but he pulls out a fine first serve to level it up before a clinical volley at the net moves the score to 40-30. He then catches Federer off guard by racing forward, forcing the Swiss to fire a passing shot into the net. Roddick 2 Federer 1 (First Set: 7-5). 1456 : Federer produces sublime serve and volley tennis and an ace to move 40-0 up as he looks to regain some lost confidence and when Roddick agonisingly hits long after a lengthy rally, he opens up his account in the set. Roddick 1 Federer 1 (First Set: 7-5). 1455 : Roddick picks up where he left off with a comfortable hold in the opening game of this second set, dropping just a single point. This is a massive opportunity for him now to go on and clinch his second Grand Slam title having promised so much more in his career. Roddick 1 Federer 0. (First Set: 7-5). 1452 : Well, maybe a shock is on the cards! For the sake of a good match, Roddick desperately needed to win the opening set and now the onus is on Federer to show he has the strength of character to bounce back and claim his 15th Grand Slam title. 1450 : Federer must be feeling pretty frustrated after missing four great opportunities to break the Roddick serve but puts the disappointment behind him to go 15-0 up. The sixth seed then unleashes a tremendous on-the-run forehand winner across court and a Federer error sees him move 15-30 ahead. The world number two wins the next point but then subsequently gifts Roddick a set point. In a nervy rally Federer hits a forehand down the line wide and Roddick punches the air with delight! Roddick 7 Federer 5. 1446 : Roddick has stuck to his game plan very well so far but shows signs of anxiety when committing two unforced errors - his first noticeable ones of the match - to fall 0-30 down. He cuts the deficit with a bodyline serve which Federer returns out and parity is then restored when the Swiss star finds the net. Federer dominates the next rally from the baseline and a lovely low shot over the net and down the line forces Roddick into hitting the net. So Federer has a break point but by hitting long during the next rally he loses the opportunity. Roddick then hits a perfectly placed sliced backhand volley at the net to force Federer into lobbing an effort long but the Swiss star responds with a cracking backhand winner to level it up at deuce. Roddick gifts Federer another break point with a careless shot which hits the net but a powerful first serve immediately after is too good for his opponent to get back. Federer brings up a third break point when Roddick finds the net during a long rally but the American avoids falling 6-5 down when a successful Hawkeye appeal denies the Swiss a winner. Roddick then defends a fourth break point - thanks to the help of Hawkeye once more - before finally closing out the game with two powerful first serves. What a crucial hold for Roddick. Roddick 6 Federer 5. 1436 : Federer needs to hold serve here to avoid losing the first set and gets off to the perfect start after Roddick hits a forehand wide of the tramlines before a deft drop shot puts him 30-0 up. An unstoppable smash at the net makes it 40-0 and the game is won when Roddick drills a return into the net. Roddick 5 Federer 5. 1433 : Roddick slams down a 137mph ace - his fastest in the tournament so far is 143mph - and following a Federer error he produces another to go 40-0 up. His opponent can't return the next serve either, even though he managed to get his racquet to it, so it's another easy hold for Roddick. Roddick 5 Federer 4. 1431 : Federer serves with new balls and ruthlessly uses them to his advantage as he comfortably holds, despite a rare double fault while leading 40-0. He had to come through a couple of long rallies but his class is starting to become more evident as this first set progresses. Roddick 4 Federer 4. 1428 : The crowd are absolutely thrilled by the opening rally in this game, Federer eating up the ground to reach a delightful Roddick drop shot before backhand slicing it past his rival for a 0-15 lead. Federer then finds the net in both the next two rallies before hitting long on a return as Roddick moves 40-15 up. The Swiss star can't get enough on his next return, which subsequently finds the net, allowing Roddick to keep his nose in front. Roddick 4 Federer 3. 1425 : The underdog is producing some inspired early tennis, opening up a 0-15 lead when drilling another cross-court backhand winner past Federer. However the Swiss takes the next two points - including an ace - before a Roddick error puts him 40-15 up. A decent rally then ensues but the American then finds the net, allowing Federer to restore parity in this first set. Roddick 3 Federer 3. 1421 : Roddick starts this game with an ace but Federer then sucks him into a long baseline rally which goes the way of the Swiss star when his opponent hits long. Roddick then responds with a fine cross-court forehand winner past a stranded Federer at the net to move 30-15 ahead. Federer then hits the net but keeps his hopes alive in the game when forcing Roddick to volley long. However the game is finished off by an impressive Roddick when he rifles a strong backhand down the line after a long rally to move 3-2 ahead. Roddick 3 Federer 2. 1418 : Federer races through another convincing service hold, without dropping a single point, and it would be no surprise to see this set go to a tie-break. Roddick 2 Federer 2. 1417 : Pete Sampras is here! The legendary American, who finished his career of course with 14 Grand Slam singles titles, has arrived to his seat late, but it allows him to receive a warm reception from the Centre Court crowd. 1416 : Best point of these early stages goes to Roddick, who unleashes a double-handed backhand down the line from the baseline to give him a 30-0 cushion. He wins the next two points as he holds serve to love and you have to say it's a confident start for the American. Roddick 2 Federer 1. 1414 : Federer drops his opening service point in the next game but routinely whistles through the next four as he completes a comfortable hold. Roddick 1 Federer 1. 1412 : Roddick starts with an explosive first serve which Federer is unable to get back, but the score moves to 15-15 when the American hits the net with a volley. An ace follows at 136mph as the early adrenaline pumps round the body before Roddick seals the game with two more powerful first serves, the second of which not even giving Federer half a chance. Roddick 1 Federer 0. 1410 : The warm-up is over and now the players take up their positions for the opening game of this men's singles final... 1406 : There's quite a refreshing cool breeze over SW19 and overall the playing conditions can be described as clement. There's plenty of cloud about but the sun is breaking through at intervals and there doesn't seem much chance of the roof being required today. 1405 : Federer calls heads for the coin toss and it lands a tail! So that's one small victory for Roddick today - I wonder how many more he'll get? The American opts to serve first and now the pair begin their customary warm-up. 1400 : The players walk out onto Centre Court to a standing ovation on what could be a historic day for tennis as Roger Federer goes in search of a record-breaking 15th Grand Slam title. Does Andy Roddick stand a chance of an upset today or will it be a routine triumph for the Swiss ace who really has made Wimbledon his home over recent times. He badly wants his title back and I doubt Roddick will be able to stop him. What do you think? Let me know by emailing christopher.hammer@bskyb.com 1350 : Let's now look at how both players reached today's final, starting with Federer. The world number two has only dropped one set so far and that came in his third round clash against Philipp Kohlschreiber while he took little time in brushing aside Yen-Hsun Lu, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Robin Soderling and Ivo Karlovic. In Friday's semi-final Federer was as clinical as ever in another straight sets triumph against tournament surprise package Tommy Haas, who simply had no answer to the legend's serve and never even had a break point. Roddick meanwhile has found life much tougher - his fourth-round victory over Tomas Berdych being his only straight sets win so far. Prior to that he needed four sets to dispose of Jeremy Chardy, Igor Kunitsyn and Jurgen Melzer while he was of course pushed all the way by Lleyton Hewitt in an epic quarter-final. His semi-final against Murray also looked like it would go the distance but managed to prevail in a nerve-wracking tie-breaker to run out a 6-4 4-6 7-6 (9/7) 7-6 (7/5) winner. 1320 : Federer has been coolness personified throughout this year's Wimbledon and much of this can be put down to his first ever success at the French Open last month, which not only equaled Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles but also saw him become only the sixth man in history to win all four. Having now tasted glory on the Roland Garros clay, many believe he deserves to be branded the greatest player to have ever graced the game and any doubts over this claim will be surely laid to rest if he can move into a league of his own with victory today. But let's not write off Roddick, who has already gatecrashed one big party on Friday when knocking out British hope Andy Murray in a dramatic four-set semi-final while he's also desperate for his first Grand Slam title since the 2003 US Open - his only one to date. He certainly has a score to settle with Federer having also suffered final heartache against him in 2006 at Flushing Meadows but critics would say he simply doesn't possess the complete package needed to beat a player of Federer's unrivalled class. 1300 : The Fed Express is of course contesting his seventh straight final at SW19 having reigned supreme here between 2003 and 2007 until last year's epic defeat against Rafael Nadal, who sadly was unable to compete this time due to injury. There's no doubt the Swiss ace is eager to reclaim his place on the Wimbledon throne and understandably heads into today's contest as red hot favourite against an opponent he's defeated in 18 of their 20 previous encounters. Two of these victories came in the 2004 and 2005 Wimbledon finals and Roddick will need to produce an inspired display today if he's to prevent a similar outcome. Roddick's last triumph over Federer came in an ATP Masters Series event in Miami last year, ending a run of 11 straight losses, but since then normal service has been resumed with their three meetings in 2009 going the way of the all-time great. 1225 : Welcome to our live commentary of the final day of this year's Wimbledon, where Roger Federer is bidding to claim a record 15th Grand Slam title as he takes on America's Andy Roddick. The players are due out on Centre Court at 1400 BST but stay tuned with us before then as preview what will hopefully be a classic encounter.
