With many matches called off due to heavy rain and poor light Querrey stepped up to the mark to advance to the next round. Philipp Petzschner, currently ranked 48th in the world, also managed to reach the second round by defeating Argentina's Horaciao Zeballos 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-2, while Frenchman beat American Amer Delic 6-4 6-4. Meanwhile, unseeded American Alex Bogomolov produced an excellent display to propel him to victory over Frenchman Arnaud Clement.
