Young Frenchman claims his maiden title in Stuttgart, Germany

Jeremy Chardy claimed the first ATP tour title of his career with a comeback victory over Victor Hanescu at the Mercedes Cup on Sunday. The 22-year-old Frenchman, ranked 43 in the world coming into the tournament, was playing just the second final of his fledgling career after finishing runner-up to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in February. And the 1-6 6-3 6-4 triumph was made even more impressive by the fact that Chardy was so comprehensively outplayed in the first set. He battled back to win 20 of 26 points on serve in wrapping up the second, breaking in the sixth game, to level the match. Chardy then raced into a 4-0 lead in the third before eventually securing the win over the Romanian in one hour and 49 minutes.
